Everything you need to know
We’ve all had a bit more time to get acquainted with our own reflection these past few years. While your teeth may be otherwise healthy, you might’ve noticed a few things you’re not so happy with. Stained, chipped, or misaligned teeth can affect self-confidence. Similarly, some of these issues can lead to further damage and decay.
If you’re ready to get out and explore the world again, why not do it with a brighter, more balanced smile? Cosmetic dentistry procedures can address a range of concerns. In this guide, you’ll find out everything you need to know.
What is Cosmetic Dentistry?
Cosmetic dentistry is a term used to describe dental procedures that transform the appearance of the teeth. Performed by expert Cosmetic Dentists, the procedures can:
- Mask tooth discolouration
- Restore chipped or broken teeth
- Balance teeth that are crooked or misaligned
- Reduce teeth gaps
- Improve overbites/crowding issues
Some cosmetic dental solutions can even protect the teeth from future deterioration.
Smile Makeover Options
There are a range of ways to perform a smile makeover. At CosMediSmile, our cosmetic dental services include Porcelain Veneers, Zirconia Crowns, and Invisalign.
Porcelain Veneers are ultra-thin, ceramic covers that fit directly over natural teeth. In addition to masking stains and perfecting the shape, these veneers add a strong and durable coating to the front of the tooth. They can be fitted in as little as 1 week and, when cared for properly, can last up to 20 years!
Zirconia Crowns fit over the entire tooth to dramatically improve strength, colour, and alignment. Custom-made from durable zirconium oxide, these dental crowns can withstand a great deal of force. They’re also biocompatible, meaning that the body won’t fight them. Like Porcelain Veneers, they’re incredibly stain resistant.
Invisalign is a discreet and effective cosmetic dental treatment. The plastic aligners are an alternative to traditional, metal braces—they’re transparent, light weight and removable. Invisalign works to gradually straighten the natural teeth, while keeping the client’s lifestyle in mind.
In addition to these 3 key services, our cosmetic dental experts also offer custom upgrades for clients looking to take their smile makeover to the next level. Options include:
2022 Cosmetic Dentistry Trends
Cosmetic dentistry isn’t new. In fact, archaeologists have found evidence of gold dental crowns dating back to 700 BC and, by the 1800s, porcelain dentures were used to replace broken and decayed teeth. What is new, however, is the technologies and materials used to create cosmetic dental solutions.
Today, there are numerous veneer and crown materials available. These include composite resin, gold, stainless steel, ceramic porcelain, and zirconium oxide (the two superior materials trusted by our expert dentists). Veneers and Dental Crowns made from these materials are hand-crafted by Ceramic Artists. 3D scans are used to ensure outstanding results—clients can preview their smile and watch it come to life on the screen during initial consultations. The use of advanced technologies means that all cosmetic dental solutions can be adjusted and perfected prior to being fit. This leads to a more personalised experience, and an individually tailored outcome.
Another key difference between cosmetic dentistry in the past and 2022 cosmetic dental trends is the colour and finish. Developments in material quality have meant that Ceramic Artists are not only able to match solutions to the client’s existing teeth (including mimicking the translucency of a natural tooth) but they can also brighten them to a preferred shade. With a host of Influencers getting behind the cosmetic dental craze, the use of Bleach Shades (BL) has become more popular. These shades are used when clients undergo teeth whitening and can now be used to achieve a brighter, more balanced smile with cosmetic dentistry.
Benefits of a Smile Makeover
A bright and balanced smile can be life changing. Expertly fitted Porcelain Veneers, Zirconia Crowns and Invisalign solutions offer lasting smile confidence—something everyone deserves. The key benefits of a cosmetic dentistry smile makeover include:
1. A whiter, brighter smile
Porcelain Veneers and Dental Crowns come in a range of shades. For the most realistic results, dentists recommend 2 shades lighter than your natural teeth.
2. Quick & easy cosmetic repair
Veneers and crowns can be fitted in as little as 1 week. Invisalign aligners are made using Invisalign’s SmartForce Technology to gradually address concerns without others noticing they’re there.
3. Minimally invasive procedures
Our cosmetic dental solutions are performed under the comfort of local anaesthetic. To prepare the teeth for treatment, dentists only remove a small amount of enamel (generally less than 1mm).
4. A more balanced smile
Cosmetic dentistry can provide dramatic results for clients with teeth gaps, small sized teeth, crowded teeth, minor misalignments, overbites, and more!
5. Permanent & durable solutions
CosMediSmile Cosmetic Dentistry Experts only use the highest quality materials. Our IPS E-max porcelain and zirconium oxide are resistant to chips, breaks and stains, meaning less repairs and a longer lifespan (up to 20 years when cared for properly).
To care for your smile after your makeover, simply brush twice a day with a non-abrasive, fluoride toothpaste and floss at least once a day. CosMediSmile clients are provided with a protective nightguard to wear after treatment and it’s recommended they maintain twice yearly dental check-ups.
CosMediSmile Make It Easy
Not sure what to expect at a cosmetic dentistry consultation? At CosMediSmile, we don’t believe in unnecessary costs or appointments. We follow a simple, 4-step process and, after your FREE phone or video consultation and smile assessment, your Porcelain Veneers or Zirconia Crowns will be complete in as little as 1 week.
Step 1 - Consultation & Design
Meet with your dentist to discuss and design your new smile. A 3D scan will be taken so you can visualise the treatment and you’ll also receive a scale and clean.
Step 2 - Smile Trial & Preparation
This is where you trial your smile. Your dentist will work with you to ensure that you’re 100% happy with the design of your veneers or crowns–they will refine where necessary. Your teeth will then be prepared under local anaesthetic. Temporary Veneers or Dental Crowns will be fitted to protect your teeth while our Ceramic Artists craft your custom cosmetic dental solution.
Step 3 - Applying Your New Smile
It’s time to cheer because, at this appointment, your custom Porcelain Veneers or Zirconia Dental Crowns will be ready. Sit back while our dentists apply your new smile under the comfort of local anaesthetic.
Step 4 - Review & Refine Your Smile
The final step in the CosMediSmile process is a follow-up appointment. Here, your bite will be assessed, your veneers or crowns will be polished, and you’ll receive your protective nightguard and whitening kit to take home.
Clients receiving Invisalign treatment will follow a similar process. 3D scans will be taken at their first consultation, a unique Invisalign straightening plan will be developed based on these scans and x-rays during the second consultation, and, at the third consultation, clients will be fitted with their first set of custom-made aligners.
