All About
Restorative Dentistry.

Restorative Dentistry, as the name suggests, involves restoring damage to teeth brought about by decay, trauma, various systemic illnesses and inherited defects.

There are many types of Dental Restorations, they may be classified into two main categories – direct and indirect. The difference between the 2 is that while direct restorations are inserted into, or applied to the tooth in a soft state directly in the patient’s oral cavity, indirect restorations are fabricated on a model of the teeth outside of the patient’s mouth.

There are significant advantages of direct tooth coloured restorations, one being that they can be accomplished in 1 – 2 visits, saving you both time and money. An additional important advantage is that generally they allow preservation of more of the healthy tooth structure than is possible with indirect restorations. This is because these types of restorations can be mechanically or chemically bonded to the existing tooth structure with little preparation of the tooth being required.
